The New Zealand Internet Industry Awards are the only New Zealand business Awards that are focused on the Internet as an enabling platform for business, education, global and society-enhancing programmes.

The Liz Dengate Thrush Foundation established these Awards to highlight and celebrate those companies and organisations which are using the internet to make a difference in New Zealand.

We want to help professionalise the industry by providing mentoring, networking and showcasing opportunities. The Awards ceremony exposes the best of New Zealand talent and achievements on a world stage.

Entry Criteria:

  1. Entries must be received no later than Monday 21st November 2011   
  2. Entries must be from New Zealand-based companies or individuals.
     
  3. Entries must be made in writing and be clear and concise.
  • Reference is expected to be made to applicants’ websites, that disclose the products or services
  • A video clip of no more than 10 minutes explaining the product or service may also be provided
  • Samples of documents, including advertising materials
    Please send four copies of each material submitted
  1. The judging panel for each category will review all entries and draw up a shortlist of no more than four finalists.
     
  2. Names and entry details of short listed finalists will be announced on Friday 2nd December 2011.
     
  3. One winner in each category will be selected. The decision of the judging panel is final.
     
  4. Category winners will be announced at the NZ Internet Industry Awards dinner on the 29th of March 2012

 

In 2011 judging will be in the following four Categories.

Societal Impact

Which recognises those companies which have developed an application, product or service that is most likely to have a beneficial impact on New Zealand society. Applications in this category may come from areas such as:

  • Social Networking Software
  • Software for selective blocking of illegal or harmful sites
  • Tele-medicine; applications for remote diagnostics
  • Banking security surveillance
  • E-Democracy; online voting
  • Emergency management systems

 

Best Education Product or Service

Recognises companies who have developed an application, product or service that is likely to have the greatest impact on learning or teaching in New Zealand. Applications in this category may come from areas such as:

  • Teaching and learning
  • Knowledge technical skills
  • Proper conduct
  • Formal and informal teaching
  • Skills development

Best Business Application

About recognising and celebrating business transformation, driven by the application of the internet, either in relation to the way a company is doing business or by changing the way a company’s chosen markets do business with it. This category is boundless and applications may come from areas such as:

  • Applying real innovation to traditional business
  • Turning one business into another
  • Merging a profession into manufacturing

Internet Innovator/Entrepreneur

This is a rare type of person who puts both capital and reputation on the line and has developed an Internet initiative that has successfully contributed to New Zealand's wealth. Applications in this category may come from individuals or businesses in areas such as:

  • Revitalising a business and/or an organisation
  • Product or service leading to job creation
  • Product or service leading to wealth creation
  • Launching a new business

Judges are selected by the trustees of the LDT Foundation and comprise a Chief Judge specific to a particular Category. The Chief Judge will be joined by two other panellists with experience relevant to a particular Category. This approach has been introduced to reflect the unique dynamics of each of the Categories.
